Josephine?
What is your opinion of Josephine? Is it too matronly for a little girl? Does it work as a sister of Peter? Thanks.

could work... looks like Josephine's gaining some popularity now... When I was young, it was a name to joke about, but now people will actually use it.. I just hope Ethel and Edith don't make a comeback. That would e sad... esp. Ethel... It tends to make me think of alcohol and chem classes.

Josephine RomeThanks for all the great feedback. Her middle name would be Rome (a grandmother's maiden name). What do you think of Josephine Rome?

That's wonderful, and I love that it has family meaning!

I love Josephine. It's become one of my favorite female names -- so beautiful and elegant.I don't think it's at all matronly! It's nice with Peter.

I don't think it's matronly at all b/c there are so many nicknames you can use for it! Poppy & Joey would be my faves.

I love Josephine. I think it's pretty, soft, and elegant. For a little girl, Josie is a cute NN. Joey works, too.

It's a nice name. It is a bit matronly and old-fashioned. (Since I know an old lady in her 90's named Josephine I always think of her!)But I really like the NN options of Josie, Joey or the pet name JoJo. Cute. I like it well enough.Heidi

I adore Josephine! I may be a bit biased, my own girl is Josephine (she's 4 now) but I can easily picture it on a little one as well as an old lady. Matronly? Not with nickname options like Posy, Poppy, Effie & Fifi, nevermind Josie! I think she'd be a stunning sister for Peter. Really lovely. ETA: She was Name of the Day in a name blog I frequent a few days ago, here's the link: http://appellationmountain.net/2008/10/11/name-of-the-day-josephine/
If you're interested.

Our only child right now is our son, Peter Jeffries. His middle name Jeffries was my grandmother's maiden name. For our next child we will use another grandmother's maiden name (Rome) as the middle name. So if our next child is a girl and we name her Josephine, her name would be Josephine Rome. What do you think?

Oooh, I like that! Sweet. My Josephine's middle is her Great Grandmother's first name (and HER mother's maiden name) Rosamel.

I love JosephineA little girl in my son's 1st grade class is named this. I think it works fine on all ages but perhaps I am biased because I love it so much. It has nns that you can use as well, so if you wanted to *young it down* a bit, you could.

Josephine is #1 on my list right now. I'm almost 6 months along, and so far, Josephine will be her name!
