Miranda
Do you like Miranda? I've always loved it. But how likely do you think it is that a Miranda would be called Randy? I wouldn't like that at all.

Not likely at all. I knew 2 girls named Miranda in high school and were never called Randi/Randy...(although one had a little brother who couldn't pronounce her name and just called her "Randa".) Miranda is lovely and I don't think she'd be called that unless you started calling her that. It's the same with Amanda nn Mandy...I've known some Amanda's who are nicknamed Mandy, but most are just Amanda.

I like it. I think Randi / Randee wouldn't come up unless the person could pull it off without it seeming too dorky. I'd never spell it Randy for a woman though *shudder*

My concern with the name is not being called Randy, but the term "miranda rights."Everytime I hear it, I think, "You have the right to remain silent..."

I love Miranda, but I would never use it because of my name. It would just be confusing. I think Miranda can escape without ever being called Randy.

I love Miranda! I don't think Randy is inevitable at all, and Mira and Miri make great alternatives if anyone really wants a nickname.

I love Miranda madly and despise Randy. I don't necessarily think a Miranda would be called Randy. I've only known a few and they weren't.

Miranda is gorgeous. It is elegant and slightly mysterious.I don't care for the nn Randy / Randie at all. I prefer Miri, Mia or Mimi. You could even get Annie, Mindy or Mandy out of it. It's very versatile, nn-wise.

I love Miranda and have since childhood. I see Randa as more of the go-to nn than Randy ...don't really have a strong feeling toward either name.Miri and Mira are cute nns though--but nothing beats Miranda!

I agree with you. I would call any Miranda Mimi, which I think is adorable.
I've known Mirandas that weren't Randy. Or Mira, for that matter, which is dumb.

I don't mind the name, though I wouldn't choose it for a DD of mine. Some people might try and call her Randy, but you could stop that quickly and tell them to call her Miranda instead.

Love Miranda. Hate Randy. But it's your child's choice what they want their nickname to be, not yours. If they wanted to call themselves Randy, would you love them any less?

Well, no, I wouldn't love my child any less. But depending on how likely I thought the nickname Randy might be, it could make me avoid using the name altogether. But that's not something you have absolute control over, I realize. My stepmother's name was Melinda, but she chose to have everyone call her Biggs (her mother refused to do so) and I work with a Janel who has everyone call her Yaya.

I've always disliked Miranda. Lately, it's grown on me, I can see the appeal.
Nn's aren't inevitable, and I can't blame you for wanting to avoid Randy. I'd be more likely to call a Miranda Mira than Randy.

Ditto on Mira for a lovely nn...

Miranda is quite lovely. Mira or Andy would be nice alternative nns.
