I do not think that someone named Elina would inevitably be called Ellie. Not all Elizabeths and Elinors are called Ellie. My brother is Nathaniel, but he has always been called Nathaniel, never Nat, Nate, or Nathan.

One of my two best friends is named Elina. She is Finnish. I love her name and she doesn't have a nickname (at least none actually related to her name, haha). I think it is quite fine on its own.

I think it can stand on its own. It's okay. Not a favorite but quite nice.
