Phineas. I'm just really tired of the Irish trend. It's getting old.

My first thought was this songThere was a boy called Michael Finnigan,
He grew whiskers on his chin-igan.
The wind came out and blew them in again.
Poor old Michael Finnigan, begin again. There was an old man named Michael Finnigan,
Who went off fishing with a pinnigan.
He caught a fish, but it fell in again.
Poor old Michael Finnigan. There was an old man named Michael Finnigan,
Who caught a cold and couldn't get well again.
Then he died, and had to begin again.
Poor old Michael Finnigan.
I don't much care for Phineas either, or the Old Testament history. Hophni and Phineas were the two evil sons of the priest, Eli.How about Finn or Fionn? I really like both of these.

Finnegan definitely. It's a great name, that I'm liking more & more.:)

I personally much prefer Phineas. Not a big Finnegan-as-fn fan.I sort of get a "I'm looking for a whole name for the nn Finn" vibe from your question. May I interest you in Finley, by any chance?

maybe Finlay...I just like the suffix slightly more.

PhineasGenerally I really like Irish names, but I like the more obscure ones (Ronan, for example). Finnegan follows too many current naming trends, such as using an Irish surname as a first name. There's nothing wrong with Finnegan (it's still quite nice, in fact, and I do like it), but Phineas just has that quirky spunk that I love in a name.

I just can't fathom calling my kid Phin for short.I much prefer Fin or Finn, so Finnegan wins.

I would spell it Finn even if it was Phineas.

I'd be concerned people would spell his full name Finneas then.

Julia Roberts' son is called Finnbut is spelled Phineaus.

So?I am saying that I think it's silly.
Maybe Julia and her man think it's ok.

I'm just sayingThat people probably won't assume it's spelled Finneas just because he goes by Finn. +I mean, I know a Catherine who went by Katie as a child, and goes by Kitty now. No one ever assumed she spelled it Catie and Citty.

I think Phineas with the nickname Finn would be an interesting conversation piece. Many people get confused by everything, so I wouldn't try and dance to their tune.
