I actually really like both. I have liked Darrell on and off since I met an ex's dad, who was an amazing guy, and raised a great son on his own. I don't think I'd use it due to that connection, not to mention I don't like using names in the top 1000.
Darren is the same in a since. I've liked it since elementary. While going through D.A.R.E. (drug resistant education), our mascot was a stuffed bear with a D.A.R.E. shirt on - his name was Darren. Anyway, Darren is also in the top 1000 which makes me shy away from actually using it - but I still love the name.
