Sylvie...
I read a short story recently and the main character's name was Sylvie, a nn for Sylvia. I can't decide whether or not I like it, I really don't like Sylvia very much, but Sylvie is sort of growing on me. wdyt?

As a French girl I find Sylvie rather plain...
I think its cute, and I too like it more than Sylvia. To me Sylvia has always felt a bit trashy even though its a beautiful name. I think its because I saw a couple of movies and read a couple of books right in a row where a character named Sylvia was either really mean or not the most admirable person. I think that Sylvie keeps the beauty of Sylvia, but I don't have a bad association with it.
While I'm not a huge fan of Sylvia, I really love Sylvie. Not sure why I love one so much more than the other when they're so obviously similar, but I suppose Sylvia has always sounds old and dowdy to me. Sylvie sounds a little younger.
I love Sylvie - it's cute and much fresher and spunkier than Sylvia (though I love Silvia).
I've loved Sylvie since I was a teenager and had a vivacious and artistic French penfriend with this name.

Sylvie is lovely on it's own. I really like it.
