Frederick
WDYTO Frederick? I find it handsome and sophisticated but I really dislike most of the nns. Would a Frederick unavoidably end up going by Fred or Freddie? If really a short form were necessary, I'd prefer Rick. What about the Italian form, Federico?

Frederick is a nice name and I personally love Fred. Federico is fine if you're Italian.

Frederick is Grant's grandfather's name. Its ok as a middle name.

I also love Frederick, but dislike the nicknames Fred and Freddie. However, I do like Rick and Teddy (the latter only for a baby or little boy).

I fell in love with the name Frederick when Lilith Sternan and Frasier Crane (sp?) named their fictional son Frederick on "Cheers." I had flirted with Frederick before that, as the young hero in a Gilbert and Sullivan operetta. But the Cheers sealed the deal for me.How about Fritz as a nn?

I like Frederick a lot, and I think I could tolerate the nn Fred but Freddie would be too much. Honestly I don't think it would be hard to avoid as long as your last name isn't Astair (sp?) or KrugerFederico is okay, but the end makes me think of Rico brand clarinet reeds which I absolutely cannot stand.

I loooove the name Frederick. So classy. It's consistently in my top 3 boys' names. I think (at least in English speaking countries) that Fred or Freddie is an inevitable nickname, just by virtue of the fact it's the most common. I do like Rick, but I'd automatically assume it's a nickname for Richard. Federico is not my style, but not bad by any means.

I love Frederick! I'm quite fond of Fred/ Freddie as well- but if you're not, then I think Rick would be easy enough. Or even no nickname.Frederico is good as well. Rico?

I adore Frederick, and lovelovelove the nn Rick. I'm not a big fan of Fred/Freddy/Freddie, but Rick is so handsome. I think you could pull off a full Frederick if you wanted, though it would be a bit difficult. Frederick is so handsome ... Beautiful :)Frederico isn't my cup of tea. I think I find it too ethnic for my personal taste, since I have no Italian roots whatsoever and it would sound pretty out of place where I live.

Frederick is growing on me, but I agree that Fred and Freddie are not great nns. Rick sounds like a 40-ish man to me. How about Rico for a nn?

I think Frederick/Fred/Freddie go hand-in-hand with each other. Rick would be a doable NN, but people aren't going to jump to that.

I can't say I like Frederick at all. I do think that if you establish Rick as a nickname early on, it could work.Fred is the most obvious nn for Frederick, but Vicky is the most obvious nickname for Victoria. My daughter's name is Victoria, but I established Torrie as the nickname early on, and she never had a problem being called Vicky. So I think that Rick as nickname for Frederick could be done.On the other hand, I don't hate Vicky, I just preferred Torrie. I don't think you should use a name if you absolutely hate its most obvious nickname, because despite everything, it's possible your child will be called by that nickname. So if you hate Fred, I don't think you should use Frederick.

I love Frederick I'd really like to use it one day, either on it's own or as a middle name (Charles Frederick is one of my top combos).I would use Fred or Freddie but I don't think it is inevitable. I knew an Alexander who only went by Alexander and that is similar in length to Frederick.Federico is nice but I think I would mistake it as FRederico a lot but that wouldn't apply everywhere.

I've never been a huge fan of Frederick, although I don't mind it anymore. I've been trying to force myself to like it more because I'd potentially use it as a middle name for a future son, since it's my father's middle name and his father's first name.If a Frederick and his family didn't want him to be called Fred or Freddie, they could just tell people or correct people, and it would be alright. I've actually begun telling people my son's name is Ben because if I tell them it's Benjamin, they'll call him Benjamin, and we don't call him that.Frederico is alright. My favorite form of Frederick is Friedrich.
