John
The more I think about this name the more I love it.
Since John is so common I want a not so usual middle name.
wdyt?
John Eldon (Eldon is my fathers name)
John Whitney (Whitney is DH's grandfather's middle name)
John Ernest (Ernest is my great grandfather's middle name)
Other suggestions are welcome!

I personally find the name to be rather plain. If you plan on using it, I'd suggest as a mn.
yawn
Lovely name, but needs a long rest. I like Ernest as a mn.

lol. yea it definitely could stand a few centuries of rest.
because it's my father's name and has a great history. I'd say John Eldon is the best combo, but I dislike all of the mn you listed.
I also love the name John, as it's a handsome classic that is rarely used on little boys anymore. Well I don't see it a lot anyway. John Ernest is my fave combo, I absolutely love it!
I'm not a fan of John (just sick to death of it, honestly,) but John Whitney is very noble-sounding and quite nice. John Ernest is just okay. John Eldon reminds me way too much of Elton John.
John Whitney is nice. I love John Kelly, which someone around here has touted the merits of before. Every time I see it I think, Wow!
John Kelly is very nice. Old hollywoodish.
I love John and think that it can be amazing with an amazing combo. I like John Whitney and John Ernest a lot. Here are other John Combos:
John Benedict (Lillian's)
John Sebastian (Bach)
John Orestes (eh)
John Pearl (Array's)
John Methodius
John Bertram (someone's)
The John combo Bear posted about the other day
If it appeals to you you could call John Whitney "Whit" imagine that

John's so boring IMO. And I hate it when guys these days are named John and go by Jack! I thought it was mostly older Johns who go by Jack. Most younger Johns are just John.

I love Ashley and morgan. Too baby DH doesn't like either for a boy *pouts*
Yay. I love the name John. Overly used in the past, I think he doesn't get enough attention any more. People say it's high in the charts, but I rarely see it discussed on baby name boards.
John Eldon would be a nice way to honor your father. An "Elton John" image kind of takes it over though.
John Whitney -- Too bad Whitney has become a spoiled rich girl name, in my mind at least. See? This is why I hate people indiscriminately using other people's surnames as fns.
John Ernest -- Great combination, it honors your family, and subtley honors one of my favorite authors, Oscar Wilde and "The Importance of Being Earnest." This one gets the thumbs up from me.
I came up with John Garbhan / Garvan by chance yesterday. It's been rattling around in my head all day. Maybe you would like it too. Other than that, my usuals are:
John Graham ("GRAY-um")
John Matthias
John Sebastian
John Cornelius
John Bartholomew
John Emeric
John Cormac
John Esmond
John Gareth
John Magnus
John Edmund
Do you like any of these?
