Ethelred
Ok, so I've just been mullling this name over in my head, and once I said it aloud it clamped itself into my head. I just think it would sound really cool on a little boy.(I'm crazy, right? lol):0)

I once read that Ethelred was the name Mildred was derived from. From Ethelred and Ethelreda. So I consider it a girls name.

Well, naturally I would say you were not crazy at all. Red is a pretty easy and kickass nickname. It's neat, Ethel- names aren't really my cup of tea at this point but I really like it.

I adore old Anglo-Saxon names like this. But the "Ethel-" part in Ethelred sounds so feminine to modern ears. I love names like this and even I have to tell myself it's masculine. How about Cuthbert? Aethling? I don't know how to spell Aethling to be honest. I've heard it, "AYTH-ling," and fell in love with it. Does anyone know for sure? You should peruse the "Anglo-Saxon" section here at BtN. Ab-Fab.

I like it for its historical significance, but the Ethel beginning makes it sound like a girl's name and is therefore unusable. It's a no from me, I'm afraid. Do you like Elred? I think that might be a name.

Ethelred the Unready?
I admit I like the sound of it, but I can't see it as usable.

Ethelred is a cool name but I wouldn't use it

I think it sounds extremely pretentious.
