Adia
The first time I heard this name, it was from the Sarah McLachlan song, years ago. I've loved it ever since, but I can never find information on it; the closest name here on the base is Adi, which is the Hebrew name for jewel or ornament. Does anyone know if its a real name, or if it was just made up? Also, what is your opinion of it? Any MN suggestions? Thanks, guys.

How do you pronounce it?AH-dee-uh is how I read it, and I don't like it because it sounds like the word idea.Or is it ADD-ee-uh? with a short A like cat?

'AY-dee-a' (as in the song) or 'ah-DEE-ah'. I prefer the first.

Ditto about the Sarah MacLaughlan song!
Adia is an African name meaning 'Being a gift'. I love the name, and I also think it would be a nice nn for Arcadia.

I know an Adi and though of that name immediately when I saw this. Although I don't know a whole lot about Hebrew names, my guess it that it's either a variation of this or simply made up. Maybe someone more familiar with Hebrew names would know if this seemed like a likely variation.

I kind of like it. I would probably spell it Adya though, because that's how I would pronounce it. Though Ah-DEE-uh is nice too. Now I can't chose which way I like better.
I've been loving Ada lately, and this is a nice alternative.

There's an opera named Aida. It's nice, but I don't think I'd use it.
