I like both names alot and I really like the nn Gene for Eugene.

Love the name Oscar, it's a fave of mine and something I could definitely use at some point. Eugene I hate, but just Gene I adore! That's because I love the late great Gene Kelly though.

I like them. They are both good names with strong history.

I like both, but I would be much more likely to use Oscar in spite of the fact Eugene would honor family. I just see Oscar used more.

I delight in both Oscar and Eugene, though I currently prefer Eugene.

Seriously, Oscar might be workable as a middle name, but EUGENE?! Quite possibly the geekiest name you could ever give a child, accompanied by a girly and dated nickname of Gene.

Eugene sounds wimpy to me.
The only possible problem with Oscar for a human is that it seems to be a really common cat name in my experience.
