Gelsey?
Found out recently that my parents seriously considered naming me Gelsey. I'm actually quite found of the name, although I know that many people would think it was a typo of Kelsey, or think that I was saying "Kelsey" or "Chelsea."
What do you think of the name Gelsey?

It's kind of cute, but makes me think of "jealousy".

I'm old enough to remember Gelsey Kirkland, the ballerina (hard "g" sound)The name Gelsey will always be tied in my mind to Gelsey Kirland and ballet. She pronounced it with a hard "g." There were quite a few parents considering the name in the early 80's, about when the movie "The Turning Point" was released. (Ms K wasn't in the film, but only because of health problems. It would have been the perfect way to memorialize her and Mikhail Barishnikov dancing together. There was a lot of buzz about that at the time.) I can't say I really ever liked the name. It was one of the first fad names I remember, that and Aileen. Aileen McCardle (sp?) was the first to star in "Annie" on Broadway. Seeing how badly both of these names have held up over the years just reinforces my fear of trendy names. I'm glad your parents resisted the temptation.

Ick. Overly cutesy and just . . . not pretty. I don't particularly like Kelsey or Chelsea, but I'd surely pick them over Gelsey.

Well, how is it pronounced? Is it "GELL-see" or "JELL-see"?

I read your question......and my first thought was "Good question! I'm curious about that too."And then "Oh my God, does it even matter?"

I was wondering the same thing! Though either way I really don't like it at all. It sounds like the name of a cheap hair product :/

I'm sorry but, I think I'm going to have to agree with Akua Topaz. I do though like Kelsie/Kelsey.

Ick! Sorry. Kelsey would be so much better, and that's saying a lot, since I hate Kelsey on a girl.Evie, though, is wonderful :-)
