Pessy
Hi all,
I spotted this name out called Pessy back in April from http://www.nyc.gov/html/doh/downloads/pdf/public/press07/pr085-07-babynames.pdf
and first I thought who in the world...!!!!! What a silly, dumb name. However, you know that feeling when a name is in your mind and then you start thinking about it...and then I loved Pessy in May,threw it out in June, and here is July, I am liking it now.
What do you think? Just letting you know, gish that website has some pretty darn interesting names...nevertheless some are so cute! :D I tend to go for the cute ones, and no, Isabella is not THAT cute! :D
So, what do you think of Pessy?
Pessy Gianna. Or Pessy something else. Pessy Lillian? Yeah, it rhymes and looks/sounds like you know, but people will get over it.
Check that website out!

As Caressa says, Pessy is a Yiddish form of Basia. (The second Hebrew version.)
I would bet that most of these girls have been born to Orthodox or Hasidic Jewish families in New York. They are probably going to be living in neighborhoods where everyone is familiar with Pessy as a name, and so won't have very many problems with teasing about it when they get older.
However, I'm not sure it's really a good idea in an English speaking context in neighborhoods where most people aren't familiar with it, especially for a non-Jewish girl whose parents don't have a very specific positive reason to tell her why they gave it to her. It's the sort of name that one needs to have a specific story of why you chose it to tell the child, to help her overcome any teasing she might get and make her proud of the name. This might not be necessary in a Hasidic neighborhood, but would be in most other places.

Right. But I still really like it. I might use it as a middle name, though. I don't know yet. The reason is because I like Gianna just as much as Pessy and Lillian. I just have to pray about it. lol
I don't know why, but this name is so cutesy for my taste. I like cute names, I think that's my style. I know what it means, Daughter of God. I am well aware.
By the way, if I'd have a Pessy Lillian, that would connect to my son's name. I am well aware of that as well. As the Pharaoh's daughter took baby Moses out of the water. By the way, as I was reading the daily reading for class in the OT, I came to a realization that Moses was someone great. It just hit me. And then, because I LOVE baby names, I decided that my first son's name will be Moses. I even told God that! I really did and ask Him please let me have the chance to name my son after Moses. And then, in my spare time late at night I did research on the name Moses on this website and then I found Moshe, which I started loving as the days went by even better than Moses, which sounds a bit harsher if you know what I mean for my own personal taste. At that time, instantly I pronounced it as the correct pronounciation but then Moshie always slipped out as if I would call my son. I did more research and came to the realiztion that it is pronounced as I first thought it would be, really, really sweetly, as Moshe. And I have come across this name during high school but took little notice of it and then it escaped from my short term memory. I took an Old Testament class at my university which was VERY, VERY detailed...we only got through the first hald of the OT, and I will take another OT class, the other half of it which too, is going to be very detailed.

Sounds like Pissy to me.
DITTO.
I'm sorry, but this name is horrible. The girl will be teased mercilessly in school, and even in adulthood things won't be easy. People won't make fun of her to her face then, but they'll certainly laugh about it with other people. Hell, I know I would. If that makes me immature, so be it.

I love the name Pessy!
Pessy, Peshye, Peshe, Pesha and Pesa are Yiddish forms of the Hebrew name Batyah.
Pessy Lillian is cute!

Wow I did not know one person will like/love it! :D I'm so happy. However, I'm still deciding on Pessy, Gianna, Lillian, and Kyla. I think I will have 2 daughters but just have to put their names in place...
Thanks for thinking Pessy Lillian is cute! Yay!

I don't care for Pessy at all. While it might possibly work as a NN, I don't like it as a full name one bit. Even as a NN, there's still quite a bit of teasing potential.
Mature people will get over it but there are too many immature, ignorant, mean people in this world who will not. Unfortunately, most of those will surrond Pessy during her school years and provide her with 13 years of torture.
This is honestly one of those names where I really think it would just be plain mean to name a child that.
Sorry...
