Oriole
WDYT of using Oriole as a name? It's just been on my mind lately. I'm not sure if I like it enough to really consider it. Does it strike you as male, female, both? Just curious..

I like it, both
Coming from Baltimore...
I'm going to have to use an emphatic NO here. I would no sooner name my boy Oriole than I would Dodger, Ranger, Marlin, or White Sock. Well, I wouldn't use the last one anyway, since I'm very much a Red Sox girl. :-P
Anyway, I strongly recommend dropping this one now. If I had to pick one gender to put it on, it would definitely be a boy. Bird names, for some weird reason, seem inherently masculine to me... the only ones I can think of that are feminine are Wren and Robin, and Robin was a male name first.
What about some other bird names?
Kestral
Hawk
Crow
Raven (well, I guess this one is a little girlier)
Conure
Mallard
Crane
Falcon

Sounds too much like areole
An areole is the pigmented skin around a nipple.
I prefer Oriel which is the name of a cafe here. It's the -ole sound I find disagreeable I think.

I have difficulty seeing this as a name for a actual person.
It's my high school's mascot. So I hate it. I think more masculine. I could see it with a more feminine form however.
Male. Its all right; dramatic, but not really one of my favorites.
