Nomar
OK, I can't find it anywhere. Not on BtN and not even Googling gave me a solid lead. Yes, I know that part goes on the fact board, but I'm not asking for a history (unless you have one to offer!) but rather, can you see it on a little boy? A man?
It is after former Red Sox player Nomar Garciaparra. FDH suggested it, and for some reason, I don't hate it. The sound is nice, and if you knew his obsession with the Red Sox, it wouldn't seem odd at all.

I think it is a good name. It sounds very foreign, but that is not in itself a bad thing.
i'd name my kid nomar. its a great name jen. you would be foolish if you didn't name your kid nomar
Not an MPD...
That's my FDH attempting to persuade me. I knew it was him before he had a chance to act like it wasn't, and he couldn't figure out how I knew. hehe... but yeah, don't think it was me!

Hm. I'm still unsure. It sounds a lot better than MY DH's obsession with Kotick (which is a SEAL, not even a PERSON) but to me it's in the same vein. What about Omar? At least it's not made up. I think Nomar could grow on me, and it wouldn't sound horrible with your last name. Just give him a really masculine "normal" middle name, I guess. :)
Well apparently Nomar Garciaparra was named that because it's his father's name in reverse: Ramon.
It could work as a name, but it's nmsaa. As Bear mentioned, it brings to mind the phrase "No More"

I believe I heard somewhere that Nomar got his name from his dad's name spelled backwards (Ramon), so you probably wouldn't find any information on it because it is a made-up name.
Personally, I like it. Red Sox nation!!

As a lifelong Red Sox fan I can tell you that Nomar Garciaparra was named after his father Ramon. Nomar is Ramon spelled backwards. As for the name I think its kind of cute

Well...if he feels that deeply about his Red Sox let him have! You can come up with some cute nicknames for your son if you don't like his firstname very much. Nomie sounds kinda cute!
Sorry, I don't have any information for you. But it brings to mind gorgeous Spanish girl names like Pilar and Alamar. Nomar does have a nice sound. Wait, "no more" is starting to creep into my head.
I wouldn't use it if the only frame of reference is a professional athlete. Personally, if I named a kid it would have to have deeper meaning than that. But perhaps baseball has such meaning for your family. To each his/their own.

Believe me, it does.... He considered proposing on Opening Day even, but I have vetoed that, so he is still thinking.
And you have to say it with a New England accent, like No-mah.... jk but its semitrue.
