Re: Jethro?
I really, really love the name Jethro, and for a long time it was actually on my top ten list. Eventually I took it off, because every single person I told (that I liked the name) started laughing and going, "Like the Beverly Hillbillies? Are you serious?"So, yes, I love the name but I'm not sure I'd like to stick a kid with it if they're going to have to deal with that every day.

ExactlyIt's all very well to be a self-described "name-nerd", and like names that most people don't. But when it comes to actually naming a child, how a name is perceived by the general public is important. Yes, of course you must love the name, but really, your opinion is not the only one that matters. How others will perceive you child's name matters also, as much as some of us don't like to admit that.A Jethro will be laughed at, a male Mischa will be laughed at, a Caspar will be laughed at. (It was A who really liked that name, and he's not here anymore, I realize.) It does matter.
