I really love the name Gavin! But it is too popular for me to use I wouldn't be able to bring myself to use it, plus my son has a friend named Gavin now so that would be too weird.

while I haven't met a Gavin in person.. I've heard the name several times on tv...Pull-ups commercial had a little Gavinon the show Degrassi, it is the first name of a character that goes by Spinner...and I think the show Friends - Phoebe may have known someone with this name...All and all -- pretty good name

It's okay but I don't like the "Gay" in Gavin. Kevin, Devin...etc. are much better IMO.

I really like it.Seems rugged yet smart sounding.

I love Gavin. It always makes me think of Gavin Darklighter from the Star Wars X-Wing novels.

I love Gavin for a girl and like it on a boy.

It's very preppy. I always imagine little Gavins as being rich white boys who live in the suburbs. That's not a terrible image but it doesn't appeal to me.

I'm not really a fan, it's my cousin's name though, he's 23. I also know a Gavin who's 18. Will always get shortened to Gav

Gavin's normally seen as a middle aged friendly man type of name round my neck of the woods. I've never met a young Gavin. That set aside, I don't really like the sound of it either. But I can see it catching on again, what with the popular -n ending and it's association with the Celts like Aidan and co.

I've always been fond of it. It makes me think of Daniel Dae Kim's character on Angel (a lawyer), and really, I think the name has a very business-professional ring to it. But that's a good thing, to me...it's very anti-trashy. It has a nice ring to it and isn't appallingly common, though I guess it has been getting rather trendy lately, which I was rather surprised to see.

Its a perfectly good name, but it was kind of ruined for me by this super annoying kid I went to school with. Other than that, its all right.

The only Gavin I've ever came across was a character in a book, an overweight, contantly eating, red- haired police man. And that's what I think of when I hear the name Gavin.

I've never know anyone named Gavin. It's ok, but I don't particularly like it. Don't care much for the Gav sound. Reminds me of gavel.

Gavin is a 'low-class' sort of name imo. I don't like it at all.

lol.....low class name.......never would have thought that but ok... :o)

It might be more of a UK thing. Just for me, when I hear Gavin, I think Kevin, Kyle, Tyrone etc.. i.e. chav.

Yes I think of Gavin in the same way as Kevin. I picture a spotty, greasy-haired dim-witted bloke. Not a good image! It's also rather dated over here. I couldn't imagine a Gavin under the age of 20.

Wow...I can't picture a Gavin older than 25 max..lol Mostly under 7 though..lol
