Nicknames for Constantine
I've mentioned before that Constantine is pretty much my favorite boys' name ever. It's been that way since I was about 6 years old and I don't think it'll change anytime soon. So essentially, I'd use it on a kid in an instant. But I can't think of any nicknames that would work. I guess Connie and Stan are usable, but I really hate both of those. Any suggestions?

Stijn? :P I like Con myself, Stine would work, Costi would be possible as well, and Conan or Costan (I quite like that actually) or Costin.btw I'm not too fond of Costas, because it's like nnaming him "beaches". Costis would be better because of that imo. But actually I don't like to 'ruin' the beautiful Constantine with any nn

Tino is my favourite, and then Con (watch Stella Dallas--the Cornelius "Con" in it is adorable). Tan and Stanzi / Stanzy also come to mind. And of course, there's always Gus. :)Array

How can "Gus" be derived from Constantine?I saw it in the database as well, but it just doesn't make sense to me.

That's a question better asked over in Facts, I suspect, because while I've definitely heard of its use in the real world (My Big Fat Greek Wedding, for instance ;), I don't know how it came about.Array

From a comment...A comment under Gus (2): "This nickname is used because of the similarity in sound to Kostas, a Greek short form of Konstantinos or Constantine. (The "k" (or kappa in the Greek alphabet), would be "unaspirated," that is, without the puff of breath following an initial k or c in English (the k of "kin" or the c of "cot" as opposed to those of "skin" or "Scot," respectively), and thus sound something like a hard "g.")"

That makes senseI know a Constantine whose nickname is Costa (COH-stah) and the C sound at the beginning is a sort of C/G hybrid sound, rather than the C/K normally associated with C.I like Costa as a nickname, but Gus, not so much.

Yeah, the one Constantin I know goes by Conny, but I've also heard Tin / Tine or Tino as a nickname. Can't think of any others except for Stan, which you've already mentioned you dislike :)
