Polymnia
Came across this name the other day and I'm slightly intrigued. I love music, so the meaning is great, but I'm not sure how it would work on a modern child. Curious to see what you all think - how do you like Polymnia nn Polly?

I love the name, but I'm not so fond of the English pronunciation of it. I dislike Polly as a nickname partly because of that.

I prefer Polyhymnia which is one of my favorite names. I think it's best as a middle name and that's the only thing I would use it as.

I don't really think muse names work too well for modern children (well, depends where you live, I suppose). Personally, I love Calliope and Clio but probably would never use them (plus everybody would think Clio is for Cleopatra...)Polymnnia is a beautiful name though, and Polly works well as a nickname.

I actually just added it to my PNL recently and I love it. The nn Polly is just adorable for it!

When I see it, I think it should be the Latin Polyhymnia. The 'poly' part puts me off, though. In terms of Greek muses, I like Aoide / Aoede and Melete.
Maybe Persephone, Penelope or Parthenope nn Polly?

I think it's pretty awesome. I love classical names, and this one is so much more refreshing to hear than Penelope or Daphne (though I love those names too). I'm not really a fan of Polly but it's kind of cute and would probably be helpful while the girl is still learning how to pronounce Polymnia.

It doesn't work on a kid nowday...But she is my sister so... I know my parents have old taste at names KLEIO, EUTERPE, THALEIA, MELPOMENE, TERPSIKHORE, ERATO, POLYMNIA, OURANIA, KALLIOPE... :) :P

Odd... I've only seen this name spelled Polyhymnia. According to this site, it's spelled Polymnia, but I checked Wikipedia and the way I thought it was spelled is how they spell it too. Actually, they said Polymnia was a genus of some plant. Perhaps Polymnia and Polyhymnia are just variations of the same name then.Anyway, I think it's a pretty name and I love that it's the name of the muse of sacred music, but too much of a mouthful to be used in real life.ETA: Oh, Polyhymnia was clickable and now my question has been answered! I thought I'd leave it in case anyone else wondered the same thing.

I don't really like it as a first name, but as a middle name, I don't think it'd bother me as much. Also, Polymnia reminds me of polygamy for some reason.

It's a very nice name. Unfortunately, the word-origin nerd in me immediately sees "poly", which puts me off because I'm not used to it in names. Still, the sound and the meaning are fabulous, and the fact that it's from mythology is an added bonus. I'm not a fan of Polly, I'd prefer Minnie.
