I don't care for the sound of it for either boy or girl. Never have. Francis sounds feminine to me, though.
I've known one boy Frances since grade school, but he always went by "Frankie". I think now he tries to go by Frank, but Frankie seems to have stuck with him.
It's much better in the mn slot than the fn.
