I like Agnes, but prefer it as a mn.
I lobe both Agnes and Aggie. The lamb imagery is very appealing to me. (Yes, yes, I know that it's real meaning is chaste. But it is so closely associated with lambs in my mind.) But if you're not sold on Agnes, there's always Agatha, Aglaia, or Augusta / Augustina. Or, to go really far out on a limb, how about Inez, a variant of Agnes?
Sounds like an old lady name to me.
Nessa is very cute!
Agnes is a name I used to think was horrifically ugly but now like, for better or for worse. It's a little old-fashioned, but at the same time pretty in a quirky sort of way. I really don't like Aggie. Where I'm from that's what we call people from a certain university.

Hideous.
It's not that it's an "old" name, I just find the sound repulsive.
And if Miley is "smiley" without the s...
Aggie must be "gaggy" without the g. Or saggy. Or baggy. etc....
Just unattractive associations all around.
Sorry.

I really like Agnes. It's such a sweet name but I don't like the pronounciation with a hard G. I say it like Ang-nes (no hard G) and I think it makes it softer and nicer sounding. Aggie is ok but I think Agnes is so much better and it doesn't really need a nn.

Agnes is one of those what I call, "retro-hip" names, that is making a comeback. But not every old name deserves a comeback, and, in my opinion, Agnes, along with Gladys is one of those names that should stay in the past.
These names are like Abigail. My reason for disliking them is that I personally find them unattractive to the ear. And that's it. There's no in-depth analysis for why I hate Abigail, Agnes, and Gladys, I just find them plain ugly sounding.
So I guess I'm no help in helping you like the name. There are other "retro-hip" names I currently like, but I'm not sure if I'll like them long-term, therefore I'm hesitant to use them on a real kid:
Cora
Mabel
Millicent
Nora
If I were you, I would ask myself, "Will I like this name down the road or will I have buyer's remorse?" That can be a difficult question to answer. But if you a confident you will like Agnes long-term, then I say go for it, regardless of my opinion.

Sorry - like Agatha, it makes me think of "old hag".
I adore it so much
I don't care for Agnes. It sounds very old, but not classic. I very much dislike the sound. There is nothing pretty about the name.
I knew one Agnes in college. She's about my age, 26. She was a tramp-ish, but definitely not hot. All the guys called her cow-Agnes or Angus.
I'd much prefer Agatha to Agnes.

Agnes is one of my all-time favorite names, period. But I'm just the opposite of you: I love Agnes, but hate the NN Aggie... perhaps because I'm from Texas, and there are two types of Texans: University of Texas (UT) fans, and Agriculture & Mechanics (A&M) fans. A&M fans are called Aggies, and have loooong been the butt of bad jokes. So maybe that's why I don't like Aggie. Also it sounds sort of "gaggy" to me for some reason. I don't like the NN Ness, either, so I've written off Agnes.
But if you love Aggie, go for it! Agnes is a lovely name. I first loved it when I read it in 'The Thorn Birds' by Colleen McCullough. It was the name of the main character's favorite doll as a child, and she named it that because it was the only name she could think of lovely and elegant enough for her beautiful doll. :-)
Some MNs I like with Agnes (keeping in mind I adore pairing vowels with vowels):
Elena
Ophelia
Yvaine
Elaida (eh-LY-duh)
Odessa
Marina
Lucine
Joanna
Elisabeth
Eliana
Domenica
M.
