How do you pronounce...
Idris? EE-dris or ID-ris?
Replies
It's Welsh, and Welsh prn. would be ID-ris.
EE-dris, or maybe more like EE-drees.
Idris always intrigued me.
But I've never heard it spoken so I've never known. I've been thinking of it as "ID-riss," but "EE-driss" makes a lot of sense now that I know.

I had a friend/ boyfriend with this name. He pronounced it ID-ris, as did his parents. He was half Lebanese half Pakistani.
Am I the only one..
... that pronounces it EYE-dris? I'm more than likely wrong on that, but I like it best that way haha.

There's a fairly major road in the city I live in called Idris Rd - everyone says EYE-dris.

I'd say EYE-driss, too.
That's how I pronouce it
I like 'ID-riss', but it's probably more like 'EE-drees'.
People would undoubtedly say 'ID-riss' in the US or UK.

I pronounce it EE-dris, and like that pronuciation. I just saw on the BtN's advanced search comments that someone said it was pronounced ID-ris, which I don't care for.
Thanks!
