I find Gwen very old ladyish - I prefer Gwenda as a nn for Gwendolyn/Gwendolen. But that's just me! I think those names are beautiful and due perhaps for a quiet revival. Gwendoline is my favourire spelling (followed by the -en one) the name of a friend, Violet Gwendoline.
Guinevere seems to invite Guin rather than Gwen. Guin is pretty close to Gwen in sound so if you love Guinevere go for it!
