Jack
Jack Atticus is one of my top three boy names. Actually, it's tied for number one.
I know that Jack is a nickname for John. I would not name a child John, as I just don't care for the name at all. Also, I don't like it when people name a child, but immediately begin calling the child by another name (unless this is to distinguish between a father and son having the same name). I don't care for Jackson. I only like Jack. Jack is not a common name in my area (Alaska). I have never heard of a child named Jack. I know of two older men named Jack, but they are only acquaintances. I really love the name because it's traditional, yet uncommon. And for some reason, I just like the sound of it.

I think Jack is nice on its own. I think Atticus makes a great middle name too, but Jack Atticus together sounds kind of funny to me. If you say it together the Jack Att- part sounds too close to jackass. But maybe that's a stretch. I don't know, that's just what I immediatley thought when I said it outloud.
ditto
and considering Jack has been the number one name in England and Wales for who knows how many years, it can stand on it's own. So no worries.

I love Jack on its own.
i do not care for Atticus at all but i love Jack! My little 4 yr old God-brother (i guess thats what you'd call him since my parents are his God-parents) is named Jack. it seems like a name that ages well on a boy/man. it doesnt sound like it should just be on a little boy or just on a grown man. He's the only Jack i've ever met in person so its not too popular, which is a good thing imo. John is a way too popular name & i have never liked it either.
Love Atticus!
However, I do not like Jack. I agree with you, its uncommon and why name a child John if you are just going to call him Jack - name a child what you will call him/her. I think it's the sound though, it doesn't sound appealing to my ears. Each to his/her own though...

Absolutely love this name and was going to be the name of baby number 4, but she turned out to be a girl. Jack, to me, is not an older man's name at all... I have known a small amount of parents to have named their children Jack and it is adorable on a baby boy, and grows really well with the child.
Congrats on such a great name... Atticus is also one of my favorites... but unfortunately, a name my husband will never let me use.

Atticus
Thanks:) My husband loves Atticus. He says it sounds like a power name, whatever that means... lol.
We have decided not to use Atticus as a first name, since my mother commented that it sounds like a illness:P We also thought it might prompt teasing. We really like it for a middle name though.
