Procrastinating again and looking for names to add to my PNL. Took a look at the French names list, and I'm curious to see what people think of these names. What is your impression of the name? Do you like it? Do you think it would work in the United States?Amandine

I like Coralie.
Yvette is okay. I really just have it on my list so that I have a 'Y' name. And of all of them, I would pick this one.

Amandine - It's funny because, when I'm thinking up combos, Amandine is one of my default mns, but I really don't care for it that much. It's better than Amanda, but still nms.
Colette - Looove it, but love the similar Cosette even more. Lately I've been loving nn Coe.
Coralie - Cute, but I can't imagine it on anyone over 5. Cora is beautiful though and I think Coralie would make a nicer nn than fn.
Emmanuelle - Gorgeous! One of my favorites. It's so elegant and stately.
Laure - Beautiful. One of my favorite mns (Octavia Laure is a favorite of mine)
Pascale - I love it, but I've been having trouble with mns.
Yvette - I'm usually a big fan of *ette names (Odette, Cosette, and Nicolette are all favorites of mine), but Yvette has always seemed tacky to me for some reason.Aristide - I'd love to meet one! Ari would make a nice nn.
Armand - Again, I'd be so happy if I met one but I wouldn't use it.
Constantin - I prefer Constantine. Constantin looks incomplete to me.
Gerard - Nms, but not awful.
Leon - I much prefer Leo. Leon makes any combo seem like a command, imo. Like Leon Gerard for example sounds like "lean on Gerard" to me. Does that make any sense?
Marius - Love it! Such a cool name.
Sebastien - Makes me think of my super hot French teacher. :P I do prefer the English Sebastian, but I love both.
Thierry - Not bad, but definitely not my favorite from your list.

An interesting list. I live in a French-speaking area (of Canada), and some of these names are common, some not. And some, only seen on the over-65s. Yvette, for example, though a pretty name, is regarded as an older woman's name.
Thierry, not unusual in France,is very rare indeed here. Also Laure, which I love, is uncommon, though Laura and Laurette are used.
Amadine is new to me.
Sebastien, which you'd think could stand alone, is frequently in a combination name-Jean-Sebastien,Marc-Sebastien.

I've always liked Marc-Sebastien, but I think it's too much for anywhere that isn't French speaking. :(

They're all quite nice with the exception of tacky-beyond-measure Coralie.

Amandine - I only like it pronounced in French
Colette - It sounds heavy to me
Coralie - Very pretty, better than just Coral, (I know someone named that.)
Emmanuelle - I like it on a boy better, Emmanuel
Laure - Better than Laura and Lauren, but still not a favourite
Pascale - Nice, different, but defineitely not unheard of
Yvette - I love this name. :)Aristide - I've never heard it before, but I like the sound
Armand - Another one I like
Constantin - In an English speaking majority I'd put the "e" on the end
Gerard - It's nice, I like it better than Jerod
Leon - Meh, I don't care for it
Marius - Sounds a bit feminine to me, but it's OK
Sebastien - Popular, but I really like it anyway
Thierry - Nice, one of my favs, but it may get mispronounced some

Amandine-nice, most likely will be nned to Mandy by friends. Sounds a bit like Almondine, though.
Colette-Gorgeous and classic.
Coralie-love it!
Emmanuelle-ditto. My french friend Emmy is really Emmanuelle.
Laure-Will be called Laurie by accident, probably.
Pascale-its nice but nmsaa.
Yvette-very classy.

Aristide- ok.
Armand-like Assante? Great name.
Constantin-I think of Rome, but its fair.
Gerard-lovely.
Leon- great!
Marius-A heart full of love. Hehe.
Sebastien-Prefer the -an ending, but this works too.
Thierry-will never be correctly prn. by Americans. Of those, I think the following work in the US:
Colette
Coralie
Emmanuelle
Yvette
Armand
Gerard
Leon
Marius
Sebastien
