I agree that Joshua sounds somewhat little kiddish (even though I know grown Joshuas). Joseph is not quite as popular as Joseph, and I think it's a very strong, handsome name, particular when it is used in full (although I don't mind Joe and Joey). I wouldn't worry about it being X's brother's MN. Some names are bound to show up twice in a large family, and it's just his MN, so it wouldn't be so obvious.
