I don't like it very much, it's surnamey. It would be really odd on a girl.

I have a cousin who has two sons, 2½ and 1. My cousin's wife is very snobbish, very stuck-up, and she has a thing for surnames as fn's. Their boys' names are Parks Reynolds (IIRC; Parks for sure) and Davis Moody, all family surnames (three out of four are from her family). Four names, and not one true formal given name among them.I am forever turned off from Davis just for this reason; not that I thought much of it before. A little boy named Davis (and I couldn't tolerate it on a girl) is inevitably going to be called Dave, so it may as well be for David, the genuine given name.Of course I recognize I have a strong bias toward David anyway.

I love Davis. It's a family surname for me, plus there's the Miles Davis connection. I only like it on a boy. I much, MUCH prefer it to David, which I don't like at all.

Like David, only worse, imo. But it's totally a surname...but BOY vs GIRL = BOY.

I love Davis (boy only), though my immediate associations are a little bit of what those kids on the internet call lulzy. Cheerful but somewhat childish and fangeeky. It's not something I'd use, but I think it's very handsome.Array

Reminds me of...(m)...Well, Me!. What with the very strong Miles Davis connection in both names. Personaly, I'm not a fan of any of the Dav- names. I find the sound very unattractive and even I think this would be a stretch as a female name. Try Hollis, it's along the same lines and I think It's lovely on either gender.

I see Davis as a surname and really don't care for it as a first name. It's definitely 100% masculine though, so I'd much rather see it on a boy than girl. I can't make myself see anything feminine in it at all.

DittoThere's nothing feminine about it. BTW, I have a male cousin named Davis Ray.

I really dislike it. It's all surname to me. If it had to be used, male, definitely. It's not feminine at all.
