I'm not too fond of the A in the middle of K/Catharine because it puts too much emphasis on the middle syllable, as if it were pronounced distinctly with 3 syllables. When I say my name (which is Catherine) the middle syllable is there, but just ever so slightly. In fact, I'm always at a loss as to whether I consider my name 2 or 3 syllables. I suppose I don't like the 3 very distinct syllables because growing up, whenever my dad was angry with me we would say my name this way ("CATH-uh-run, get down here!), so it has the sound of impending doom to me. :-P I don't, however, like when the middle syllable is entirely left out, as in Kathryn.
It's interesting how many of us have one spelling we prefer and how firmly we reject the ones we don't. My favorite is Catherine. Before I knew my son was a boy, I had Catherine Clare picked out as a girl's name. It's still my favorite combo.

I like Catharine (prefer Katherine)and always want to pair something mildly odd with it because it's so boringly classic:
Catharine Adele
Catharine Alba
Catharine Aveline
Catharine Bryony
Catharine Dolores
Catharine Freya
Catharine Idony
Catharine Leonor
Catharine Lulie
Catharine Persis
Catharine Rosella
Catharine Zarina
Catharine Zola

I love that name. I like it spelled Catherine, but Catharine, Katherine, and Katharine are fine. I think that a lot of names can work as a middle name. I also love Catherine as a middle name.
Catharine Ada
Catharine Agnes
Catharine Eleanor
Catharine Elizabeth
Catharine Frances
Catharine Genevieve
Catharine Georgia
Catharine Honora
Catharine Margaret
Catharine Mary
Catharine Olivia
Catharine Rowena

I love the name spelled Katherine. Catherine is acceptable, though I prefer the K spelling. Both Katharine and Catharine get on my nerves. That A in there just really bothers me. Every time I would see Katharine Hepburn's name in print, I'd feel like erasing it and respelling it Katherine. I'm not very good at coming up with middle names, but I know I would want a one-syllable middle name with Katherine.
Do you pronounce Catharine and Catherine the same way? To me they are different. I pronounce the a in CathArine while the e in CathErine is silent.
ETA: I do like the name Catharine though but I prefer it spelled Katherine.
