Nicknames for Mary
I've always loved May, but my brother and his wife are trying to conceive, and their top choice for a girl is Mae. What would be your choice as a nn for Mary?

I don't like using nicknames when the name is that short. Mary is Mary.

Mary is lovely on its own without a nickname. Too bad about May it's lovely and has a regal touch to it with having been a nickname of a queen.
Mimi is kind of cute but I think it's actually cuter when a grandchild calls their grandma this.Molly and Polly are traditional nicknames. Mare is an obvious and a nickname that has been used often in television (Rhoda calls her friend this on the Mary Tyler Moore Show). My and Mia are a Scandinavian pet forms of Maria that would work well. Maire is the Irish Gaelic form of Mary and Mairi is the Scottish Gaelic and either would work well as would Maureen which is the Irish exaggerated form. Maury in sound in how Mary / Marie is pronounced with an Irish accent. Mo is another nn used according to BtN but not that attractive. Miri would be acceptable, it's a nn for Miriam hence Mary. I saw in a book once a girl named Mary was called Marjorie by her Scottish uncle. This site doesn't link the names but I would. Marjorie, Margery, Marjie, Margie would all be acceptable imo. Maisie too is a form/nn for Margaret / Mairead and might work too. I've recently seem the name Mim a couple times and usually use it as a nn for Miriam or Jemima on the game board. I think it would be acceptable as a nn for Mary too.

Why not Millie? Molly, Millie. Not that much of a stretch. Any excuse to use Millie.
Mary is lovely even without a nn.

Mae was my mother's second mn. She hated it and never used it (even on our bcs)! I like it just fine though I prefer Maia. Re: ns for Mary, I like Molly, Mae and Mimi.

i'd guess Mare or May. you can use Molly and Polly as well. Mitzi can be used for a pet form of Maria (although i beg you, please don't use it on a human!)
there are lots of variations of Mary (Marie) though you might like to consider:
Mara
Marah
Amara
Maleia
Maliana
Maraea
Maria
Mariah
Marian
Marianne
Mariel
Marielle
Mariella
Marion
Marilyn
Marisol
Merissa
Miriam

Mimi perhaps? Or could she just be Mary? After all, it's not long or difficult to pronounce for a young child. I know that Molly and Polly are technically nns of Mary, but nowadays the connection's a bit of a stretch and they look more like names suitable for pets.
(Lol your signature btw)

Marymary, in all honesty. I love the name so much on its own that I can't think what would be better except more of the same. :P Plus, I really love doubling names like that.I'm also very fond of Mamie, but that'd get confusing with mother-daughter Amy-Mamie!Polly's cute, but I don't like Molly at all. Mimi's an old favourite of mine that I think would be perfectly sweet here. Maro and Marlo are somewhat-stretching-it possibilities that I like. Masha does nothing for me, but thanks to our Mashka here, I do like it with the K inserted.Array

MimiI love Mimi, and I'd completely forgotten about it as a nn for Mary, because son calls my mother Mimi instead of Grandma. She plans to have all her grandkids call her Mimi now. My family needs to stop co-opting all my Mary nicknames for non-Mary usage!Marlo really appeals to me, given my helpless attraction to names containing a long o. It's going on my list.
