HelpNames you wish had a different pronounciation?
There are some names I really like but only if I pronounce them the way I want ;) LOL. Do you have any names you really like but went "Oh, no!" when you realised how it is suppose to be pronounced.
Mine:
Eamon - I want to say it like Ee-mon. Don't like Ay-mon at all
Rhys - Thought for a long time that it was pronounced like RYE-s. I was sad when I realised it was just a different spelling of Reese
Keir - want to say it like Keer not Kerr. Love Keer, hate Kerr.
Euan - supposed to be O-in or Yo-in. I only like it pronounced like You-an
And I have to mention that the first time I saw the name Caoimhe I pronounced it like Kay-omi (rhymes with Naomi) *shakes head* I still like that pronounciation but realise that it's sooo wrong.
So what are some names you wish had a different pronounciation?

Joan - I wish it was JO-an instead of JON.
Ceridwen - I like it pronounced SE-reed-ven. :DDD
I like Pacifica's pronunciation enough as it is, but it would be perfect pronounced pah-TSEE-fi-kah
I love Imogen pronounced ie-MAW-jen
Keira - I wish it was KEI-rah
Salome - I can't stand it with the pronounciation sa-LO-mee, to me it's SA-law-may or sah-law-MAY.
Vincent is ok pronounced VEEN-sent, but I love it pronounced VEEN-tsent
I hate DAH-ni-kah, but love DAH-nits-ah.
I like Michael pronounced mee-kha-EL :D
I like Marion pronounced MAH-ri-awn or better mah-ri-AWN. But MAH-ri-on is the Finnish pronounciation, so I've no problems. :)

I like Aura pronounced either AW-rah or the Finnish way AU-rah.

I dislike Rowena when it's pronounced "Roweena", but I love it with an open "eh" sound, the way you'd pronounce it in a Latin language. It's something I'd seriously ponder on before using the name on a real child.

Ditto. row-ENN-nah is pretty, ro-WEE-nah is silly. Assuming that you say it the former way, like I do. =D

Eileen - I don't want it to be ayleen, I want it to be eye-leen.
Deirdre - I want DAIR-drah, not Deer-dra or Deer-dree.
Phaedra - It's FEEdra, not Faydra. Argh.
And these I'm probably flat wrong about

I wish it was KAS-ee-ah instead of KASH-uh. I love it as a nn for Cassiopeia and would definitely use it (pronounced my way), but I'd just be worried that people would constantly pronounce it wrong (even though I think my way is more intuitive for English and Italian speakers, which is who she would grow up with).

Maybe Cassia wouldn't be my all-time favourite name even pronounced KAS-ee-ah, but KASH-ah is completely ridiculous to me, since the Russian word "kasha" means porridge. :P

I completely agree with you. When I first saw this name, I thought it was pronouned KAS-ee-ah and thought it was very beautiful and it was my new favorite name...but then I found out the real pronounciation.

I think Cassia should be pronounced Cas-eye-uh not KA-sha like it is. If it's pronounced "KA-sha" it should be spelled Causia.

It always sounded prettier as aur-ell-EE-yah to me, rather than ow-REEL-yah. The latter just sounds ugly. :(

I've never heard it said ow-REEL-yah. I have met an Aurelia who pronounces it uh-RAYL-ee-ah though, which is closer to how you like it. :)

Euan is said you-an and Keir is said Keer in Scotland and they're both Scottish names! I've never, ever met somebody who says them at all differently from that. Maybe they are pronounced differently elsewhere in the world, but here in Scotland we pronounce them both the way you like.
However, ee-mon is way too like demon and RYE-s is 'rice' to me. Not a great name really (although there was a girl called Rice in a Beethoven movie).

I replied to your post about this name further down the board but just to say, I've always assumed it was pronounced Neh-vay-a as I've never heard it said out loud.

Keir is pronounced Keer or Kee-a so you don't need to worry! I've never heard it pronounced Kerr. I love this name.
Also Euan is pronounced You-an. Maybe you are getting mixed up with Eoin which is O-in?
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but for a long time I though Siobhan was pronounce See-ob-an. My mum thought it was Sy-o-barn until quite recently!
I used to wish Niamh was said as Nee-am. To me it is one of those names which looks prettier than it sounds. I work with an Irish girl called Niamh but I've heard other people refer to her as Neem!
