Abigail.
I woke up this morning in love with the name. I'm not sure if it's usable - my boyfriend and I both have second cousins (children of our cousins) with the name Abigail or the nn Abby. But I still really, really like it. I love the simplicity of it, the commonness of it, the meaning of it, the connotations of it. It's just such a lovely, unassuming name that still speaks incredible volumes.

I think it's a lovely name and I think Abby is very sweet. I too love the meaning of Abigail and the 'feel' of the name in general.
I like it a lot too
I know scores of parents wouldn't use it if it weren't for the nn Abby, but I'm glad they're doing it. I like the sounds of it, nicknames Abby and Gail, and how simple it is. I also really like Emily for similar reasons.
you could consider Abigail "Gail," that would be 'refreshing.'

I really like Abigail. It has a great sound and reminds me of Abigail Adams so has history. I think you can still use it.
I've always really liked Abigail (with the nn Abby, although I'd spell it Abbie). I was put off of it for a few years when it seemed like every baby girl around had that name. But it doesn't seem to be quite so common anymore, so it's back in.
I've never really been able to get behind it. It sounds and looks sort of awkward to me, like it's tripping over itself. :/ I don't really know how to explain it.
Abigail is a lovely name. I would venture to say that it is usable even though children of your second cousins are named Abigail, simply because it is a more common name. It's common without being too common and trendy. It's a lovely selection. I'm attracted to 'A' names anyway, and Abigail just looks beautiful. I've contemplated using this myself, even though the daughter of a first cousin has this name.
The only thing I don't like is the nickname Abby. :(

Abigail is lovely and unassuming. I like it a lot, but I can't say if its useable for you since I don't know said cousins and what their reactions would be.
However I do think of The Crucible, and the main character Abigail Williams. But that's only probably because I'm studying it now, and they have been lots of famous Abigails so I wouldn't worry about that reference.
I really dislike the nn Abby though, I don't know how inevitable that is.

Yep..
The Crucible. That's what I think now when I hear the name Abigail. Well, that and one of my characters.

It's not bad, lovely, stately, and unassuming like you said. But, I know way too many to like it. It's lost all it's charm for me with it's common-ness (word?).
It's a perfectly usable classic for someone else. Abby is adorable; but for me, Abigail looks too bulky and heavy (i.e. not chic or evokative enough) to be a part of my style.

This is my parent's third favourite girl's name (they originally planned to have lots of children and Sarah, Claire and Abigail would have been the first three girls - there were complications when my mum was pregnant with me so I got stuck with the boy names (George and William)). Because of that it has always had a special place in my heart - she's the little sister I never actually had! It's sweet and pretty but also totally timeless, classic and really strong. Lovely, lovely, lovely.
I wouldn't really mind about the cousin thing unless you are really close to them. Currently my cousins are probably the most important people in my life (there are only four of them!) but as I grow older I suppose that may change.
I totally agree that it's really unassuming. A truly graceful name but with total strength. Fantastic.
I'm felling all wistful...
Sarah, Claire, Abigail, William, George, Jack and Grace...ah what could have been!

I'm pretty damn proud of my parents naming! If only they'd had the kids and didn't feel the need to cram all the names into mine (Claire Georgia Wilhelmina "Georgia"). Way too much!
I recknon that as long as you wouldn't call the kid Abby as well then that would be totally OK. Abby and Abigail don't sound too similar when separated like that. Plus, depending on how old Abby is now and when you have a daughter, you could name her after her? Especially if she's an important part of your life. Depends on how you feel on honouring names I suppose.
