Archie?
What are your opinions on the name Archie (as a full name). It's really grown on me. I think it's a sweet name but wouldn't be weird on a grown man. ('Monarch of the Glen' anyone?) I'm seriously considering to add it to my PNL. Is it tacky and trendy to use a nickname as a full name?

It looks silly. It reminds me of the lawyer character in "A Fish Named Wanda". And if Cary Grant, whose real name was Archie, changed it, there must have been a reason.

Here in Australia it's actually used a fair bit. We seem to follow the UK in naming styles here and it's very popular there too. I quite like it, it's nice.

I like Archie comics......but not the name. It sounds stuffy to me. I guess being a full name and not short for Archibald that would be less the case; however, I don't condone using nicknames as full names.

LOLOne of my fantasy tripsets is Archibald, Reginald, and Forsythe.I love the names they use....Anyway I expressed my sentiments RE Archie as a full name a few posts ago. In sum: Silly.

I know of a college professor named Archie, so it could work. Personally, not my deal. Reminds me too much of the comic, or Archie Bunker.

I think most people use Archie as a full name now, rather than being short for anything. My boyfriend considered this name for his son (who ended up named Hamish). It's not one of my faves but it's ok and growing on me.S xx

Oh I loved it in Monarch of the Glen! I think it does work on a grown man, I quite like Archie but really don't like Archibald. *puts Archie on PNL*

LOL in the UK it is the height of cool to name your son Archie..and just Archie. His brother would be Alfie and his sister Ellie-Mae. I think Archie could work, but I find it unattractive and childish personally.

Not a fan of Archie as a fn. It's too downmarket and nicknamey. For me, Archie's either perpetually young (Archie comics) or an old, balding, cigar-chomping bigot (Archie Bunker). If it were me, and I loved it, I'd add it to my PNL as a GP or mn only.

I love Archie, and I agree that it is abit nicknamey, but it goesn't have any fuller names that I like, so I have Archie on my PNL. Add it!

I'd say go ahead.

In the US, Archie would seem very odd on any man under say, sixty. It's not thought of as a particularly classy, well-educated type of name. Mostly this is due to the TV character Archie Bunker, who was a loud-mouthed bigot but lovable in his own way.
You'd kind of expect an Archie to have brothers named Bobby Joe and Billy Ray and Bubba.

I really like Archie, I find it very sweet and endearing. It's fun but in a very classic way. But I don't like it as a full name, only as a nickname for Archibald. And as far as it being 'trendy'... no. I don't find it trendy at all.

I'd rather see it as a NN, though I don't really know what it could be a NN for. Maybe Arch or Archer?

Bah, I love Archie.I don't care if it's a nickname; I personally can't find any full name for it that I actually like, anyways. I say add it.

I just think Bunker.
