It's one of my most hated names, actually. It sounds silly and childish to me. It's not even a person's name in the Bible.
I don't mind it, though it's not a fave.

I adore Bethany, it's a personal favorite. And I can totally see it on an adult.
It's pretty enough, but something about it leaves me cold. I consider it somewhat downmarket, but I'm not sure why. Perhaps it's because it reminds me of Beth-Ann.
FWIW, I don't believe that Bethany would date a child terribly. It's been in the top 1000 for 59 years now, and I personally know Bethanys ranging in age from preschool to retirement.

I like it and always have. I don't see the issue with age...I actually don't see any issues at all.
I like it okay, as names with the th sound go. My best friend in Oklahoma is named Bethany and she's 28, so I don't know if I would call it all that datable. I know a Bethany here who's about 22, and one Bethanie who's 5, I think.
Here in Delaware there is a resort town called Bethany Beach, just fyi.

I can't see it on anyone over 20
Which means it's datable, it's boring beyond all belief, it's overly religious to me for some reason, and I just don't like it at all.

Exactly
I agree 100%. I know one whose about 16 years old by now. She's the dd of a minister / pastor.

I've met two Bethanys . . .
I can't imagine either of them over 20, so by extension it seems like a rather childish name. So here's a "ditto" for you.

The only one I know
is in her 40s.
Oh yeah.
And I know one who's like 10.

I know between 5-10 Bethanys
All from religious homes, all of lower socio-economic class, and all from religious families. So I guess I'm a bit biased.

I don't think I've ever actually met anyone named Bethany, to tell you the truth.
Hmm. This name is marred by a particular acquaintance in my case, but I can see how it might appeal to others, particularly as a middle name. I personally could never encourage it as a first name because I strongly dislike the nickname Beth.
