I hate Maria. Well, not hate, *hate*, but everyone in Portugal (and in most spanish-speaking countries, I assume) is called Maria Something. My mother, my sister, my grandmothers, tons of aunts, not to mention girls I've studied with... It's so common it's not even used - when you meet a Maria Cristina, you automatically call her by Cristina.

I love it, it's a great, timeless classic, easy to pronounce in various languages. I'd definitely use it.
