Persephone
I like the name Persephone, but I'm not crazy about the meaning. What do you think?

I love the name, but it isn't one I would probably use. I don't have the guts to use it for a kid, but I would consider it for a pet.
I'm your opposite. I love the meaning - names with negative meanings are so much more interesting than names with positive meanings. Positive names have been done to death. Persephone itself, however, is too fussy and associated with the myth for my tastes.
I love it, but it is definitely a guilty pleasure name in my opinions - it just wouldn't work in real life which is such a shame =(
Nope..
It's meaning is unknown, but it most likely means "to destroy" or "murder". Lots of baby name sites will give fake meanings to names that either have unfortunate meanings, or unknown meanings. The definition you found is probably made up as a result of Persephone's roll in Greek mythology. But it most definitely does not mean "She who brings the fruits".

yeap I live in Greece for now .G.Babinoitis said so!!
I associate it with the myth more than the *possible* meaning
And I think she seems like one of the nicer goddesses of that pantheon in the myth.

I agree
More people are going to be aware of the myth than of the meaning, which isn't certain anyway. A lot of names have negative or obscure meanings.
Incidentally, while this is certainly not a bad name, I'm puzzled why so many people are drawn to it, it's a nice goddess but still, a goddess of the dead.

Why I'm attracted to it ie why Persephone was more than that
When I think of Persephone (from the myth), I don't think "Queen of the Dead" despite the fact that it is technically so according to the story. I think of her as a sweet girl who was forced into a different world. The myth is a coming-of-age story as much as a story about why we have seasons - but then again, growing up and seasons are the same story if you look at in the certain way.

Excellent insight! I never really think of her as queen of the dead either, but I hadn't quite put that much thought into it.
I've never heard of it before, until now!
I actually kind of like it. It's very unique yet, not too crazy.
I agree with Johanna about the meaning thing.

I love it. I also don't think anyone's ever been judged by the meaning of their name. If you can find a name with a great meaning, more power, but I wouldn't not use a name just because of a bad meaning. ^_^ That's just me, though. I'm trying to convince my sister-in-law to use Persephone for her forthcoming little girl.
