What do you think of Katherine and its nicknames?
What do you think of Katherine? Do you like Catherine or Kathyrn better? I really like it because of the sound and history.I was wondering which nickname do you like for Katherine like Kate, Katie, Kitty, and Kat. Do you know anybody named Katherine who goes by Kitty or Kat?I was wondering this because a girl named Katherine who goes by Katie in the neighberhood mentioned she was reading "The Diary of Anne Frank". Someone joked and said you too could go by Kitty if you really wanted to. (Kitty is what Anne calls the diary) She said no way because it was too cute like a kitten. Also, I noticed that Kat for Katherine was Queen Elizabeth's mentor and friend before she was queen so I was wondering if that was the old nickname for Katherine

I like Katherine, Catherine and Katharine pretty much equally depending on my mood. I LOVE all of them. Katherine/Catherine/Katharine is one of my favourite names.I like Kate, Kitty and Kat. Kate is my favourite right now because of some awesome Kates in my life (a camp counselor, my three year old cousin, and the infamous shrew). Kitty is not that young in my opinion. I think it's a really fun, kicky sort of name. Very jazz age. I wanted to call my cousin Kate (whose full name is, unfortunatly, Kaitlyn) Kitty for a while, but that didn't work out. Kate suits her better. If she goes by Katie, as opposed to Kate, your friend's point about Kitty sounding too young is kind of invalid. Katie sounds very childish to me.

I like Kate better than the rest of them.
Katie is overused, Kitty reminds me of the woman off of That 70's Show, and Kat sounds so harsh.
If you'd want to be different.. I'd go with Kit.
I started liking the nickname Kit when I saw Failure to Launch.

I'm rather inclined to Catherine myself. :)As far as NNs go, I've never used one, and I prefer the full name. My favorite NN-- and the only would I would be willing to use-- is Kitty or Kit (my sister is having a baby in June and I want him or her to call me "Aunt Kitty"). Kathy/Cathy screams baby boomer to me. I know an exorbitant number of Katies. Kate is nice, I suppose, but a bit plain. I hate Kat/Cat. I don't know why, but I've never liked it when someone tried to call me Cat. I have met other K/Catherines called K/Cat, and it worked for them, but it's just really not me. I've never met a Kitty of my generation, but I have met older Kittys (my parents and grandparents generation). I think Kitty is both classy and spunky, so it's definitely my choice of NN.

I like Kathryn best, and as for nn I've only seen Kate and Katie used by peers and others I've met. I think Kat would be okay, but otherwise, I am not a fan of the nn (especially Katie)

I love it! Its has a beautiful sound, a good history and I have a very good associate with the name which makes me like it even more. I really like most of the variants although Katherine is definitely my favourite. My favourite nn is Kate and I like Kat, too. Katie and Kitty are nmsaa. I just find them both a bit cutesy.

I'm not really a fan of the name in general, though I do like Katie and Kat.If I have to go with one of the spellings, it'd be Katherine.

I think I prefer Catherine, I don't know why, but Katherine is nice also. Kathryn is not very appealing to me, it loses it's classic feel.Katie is my favourite nn. I've never been a fan of Kate, Kat or Kitty. I know three Katherine's (this spelling) and two go mostly by Kat and one always goes by Kate.HTH. :)

I love Katherine, especially because it is a family name for me. It is a name I have considered using as a middle name. Catherine is also a family spelling for me, so I like that too. I still prefer Katherine because it preserves the original Greek K and also because the nicknames look more aesthetically pleasing with a K. I like Kate, Katie, and Kat in no particular order. I worked with a Katherine a couple years younger than me who went by Kat. Kitty is ok, but I think it seems a bit dated to use as a nickname.

I like Catherine and dislike Katherine. I think it is because I love the history of Cetherine spelled with a C. Katherine spelled with a K looks trendy to me as well, even though I know it is not. I like the nicknames though. Kittie, Kitty, Kate, and Katie.

It's definately Katherine for me. I don't like Cs in names because it makes it seem like it should be an S sound, regardless of the name, and Kathryn has every trendy/kre8tyff quality about it. I love the nick names Kate and Katie, but Kat and Kitty won't do it for me. Why name someone after a house pet? I also love the nick names Kateri and Katri. My cousin's full name is Katery (pronounced "KATE-er-ee") and I love it. She goes by Kate.

I love this name. I like the spelling Catherine best, closely followed by Katherine. I also like Katharine, just in honor of Katharine Hepburn (one of my favorite actresses...and fellow atheists ;) ), but dislike all other spellings of the name.Kate/Cate is my favorite nickname for it, but I also like Kat/Cat, Catrin/Katrin, Katya/Katja, Kitty, and Kay...among others.

I really love Catherine, spelled this way. The only other spelling I can tolerate is Kathryn.I really prefer no nn, but maybe the occasional "Cat" or "Kat"

I absolutely love Katherine. I like Catherine a lot too but hate Kathryn with a passion.I love Kate and Katie as nicknames. I also love Kata (KAH-tah), Kaia (KIE-ah), and Kati (KAH-tee, not KAY-tee) but hate Kat and Kitty. I don't know anyone who goes by Kat or Kitty.

I like Katherine and Catherine. I don't like Kathryn.I like Kate and Kitty, but I'm tired of Katie. I like the sound of Kathy / Cathy, but it's very dated.

I know a Catherine who goes by Kitty at school and Katie at home.I also know a Kathryn who just goes by Kathryn. And I know someone with the middle name Katherine. Because I know so many, I probably wouldn't use it. And because the -rine ending makes me think it should be pronounced reen, not rin. But it's a nice name.

Kathryn is my first name, though I used my second name (Jean)-long boring story, family confusion).
I was named for an aunt Kathryn, who was always called Kit. Never Kitty, though.
