I like it, but not as a Female name.
Its the name of a male charcter in a Lloyd Alexander series.
It was used as a female charcter on a webcomic, but it always struck me as off.
Love the sound of the word, just not in use as a name :)

I LOVE Kestrel, but I could never EVER use it....it just wouldn't work on a real child.

I absolutely love it, it's kind of a guilty pleasure for me. I probably wouldn't be brave enough to use it as a first name, but maybe as a middle name.

I don't mind the name, but I'd prefer it for a mn. I think there are a lot of names that would work with Kestrel as the mn.

I find it unfeminine and not a pleasant sound...

It doesn't seem very feminine to me, since a Kestral is a hawk-type bird. I was surprised that it was in the database here. I've never heard or seen it as a name before.
