I think I prefer Edmund, just because I don't like Esmond much at all.
I prefer Edward or Edgar over both of them. I think it's completely possible to have them go without a nickname. Just make sure he's introduced as his full name. If I had an Edward or Edgar, that's all I'd call them, since I also hate Ed or Eddie.
