WDYTO Ursula?
What do you think of the name Ursula? 'Sula' for short?
Replies
I really like it, but it's not something I'd use.
I do like the name Ursula, but wouldn't use it because of "The Little Mermaid" connection.
Reminds me of The Little Mermaid
I like Ursula a lot, but I don't really like Sula. It sounds a bit awkward. I tend to associate it more with bears than The Little Mermaid. Also Ursula K. Le Guin.
I adore the name Ursula. I'm in shock someone else is asking about it. Yay!
I find it very elegant and the fact that it starts with a "u" attracts me strangely.
I associate the name with sexy Ursula Andress, the first Bond girl. Also, St. Ursula.
Sula is a cute nn. Others I've thought up include Ursa, Lulu, and Susie.
I hope to meet a little Ursula one day. This next generation needs more of them.

Thanks for this. I've gotta say, I'm totally in love with this name right now. It is so lovely. I find it a powerful and serious name that also has an edge to it. And the sound is beautiful. This might be my kiddo's name...
It evokes both the little mermaid and, I think, the evil stepmother in It Takes Two. It's a very strong female name, but it's just taken on this very hard edge from the media. I don't like 'Sula', because even though spelling it like Sula would lend to being pronounced 'Soo-la', which is nice, the ending of Ursula is more like 'suh-la', which is less nice. If you wanted a nickname, a nickname-able middle name would be optimum.

I kinda like Ursula. Unfortunately, I've always connected it to the evil witch from Little Mermaid.. I don't like "Sula" as a NN, though.
I like Sula, but Ursula just evokes The Little Mermaid so strongly that I can't get past it.
All I can think about right now is the sea witch!
I can't get over The Little Mermaid connection, probably because that;s the only place I've ever seen it used, and when I was younger, she scared me.
