Anise and Molly
WDYT? Not necessarily as siblings. I've just been liking both recently.
I first heard Anise in a video game - she was one of the main characters. I was suprised to find out it was a real name. I didn't really like it at first, but it's grown on me. It could be a kind of alternative to An- names, or even to Alice, I guess. Unfortunately, it does kind of bear a resemblance to "anus," so it would probably be relegated to middle name status. A couple combos I've come up with:
Felicity Anise
Gwendolen Anise
Josephine Anise
Melanie Anise
It's kind of hard because so many girls' names I like end in A or other vowel sounds. :/ Any suggestions? I kind of like Gwendolen Anise, but I'm not sure.
Molly I have kind of an on-again, off-again relationship with. Right now it's on again. I think it's mostly because of the piece "Molly on the Shore" by Percy Grainger. I'm in love with that song (I'm actually listening to it right now). I first heard it last year when our band went to festival and another group played it. It's one of those songs that I WILL have my band play someday when I'm a director, because I just love it so much. So anyway, my love of "Molly on the Shore" is transferring to the name Molly. I now associate that name with the song and I can't help but love it. Plus, it could also be a subtle way of honoring my grandmother and sister, as they're both Mary. I'm not thrilled with the popularity, though. I guess it could be worse, but I'm hoping it drops some in the next few years.
Anyway, I think I like it enough to use it as a first name, but I could go either/or with this one. Combos I've got for this one are:
Molly Celia
Molly Clementine
Molly Elspeth
Molly Helen (though this would be very close to my grandmother's name, Mary Helen)
Molly Karen
Molly Susannah
Ada Molly
Enid Molly
Isadora Molly
Susannah Molly
Any thoughts on the names themselves, the combos listed, and/or suggestions for more combos would be greatly appreciated. :)

What about Molly Enid? I don't like Enid Molly much, but I think Molly Enid would be lovely.
Backing up a little... My favorite of the Anise combos is Gwendolen Anise, which is odd, considering I don't like either of those names. :)

I would never use Anise because it's pronounced a lot like 'dill' is pronounced in French, and I don't like dill. It would be like naming my child Liquorice. (Another taste I don't like...) Based purely on sound, Anise is OK though. It might get misheard as Elise sometimes though.
Felicity Anise - flows well IMO
Gwendolen Anise - so-so
Josephine Anise - sounds a little rhyme-y
Melanie Anise - again, so-so
I love the name Molly. (I've never heard "Molly on the Shore" though... I might have to look it up) I am bothered by it's growing popularity too.
Molly Celia - doesn't flow right to me
Molly Clementine - cute
Molly Elspeth - I like
Molly Helen - nms, but nice, especially as it's honouring
Mally Karen - I happen to strongly dislike the name Karen
Molly Susannah - nice
Ada Molly - I don't like these two names together
Enid Molly - a bit old-fashioned, but not bad
Isadora Molly - very pretty
Susannah Molly - also nice
I like:
Molly Delilah
Molly Theodora
Cordelia Molly
Oriana Molly
I like most of them with the first/middle names switched too.

Here's a pretty good recording of Molly on the Shore: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J18SwX68pAY
It's such a fun song, I just love it. :D
And thanks for the combos. I love Molly Delilah (and I don't usually like Delilah very much!) and Cordelia Molly. :)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anise --This is all I think of when I hear anise.
Yeah, I knew it was an herb, but so are Rosemary and Basil, and they're used as names. Granted, those two are more widespread than Anise so they're not as strange, I guess.
This what I meant in my post! Maybe that's why I was thinking liquorice. (I guess it's not dill...)
