Jenna Vs. Jennifer
I realize that these names are dated to the 80's. I think Jenna seems rarer in my area, then Jennifer. I haven't met a single person named Jenna, but have known a few Jennifers. My nickname is Jenny, (instead of my legal name Jayne) . I think Jenna or Jennifer would be a nice first name for me, and fit the time period of my birth.

I prefer Jenna. =)
I'd go with Jenna, because it's not so far off meaning as Jennifer is. In Jennifer a Jayne would have a different name, whereas historically many Janes have called themselves Jenny, and Jenna's not so far away from that.
Did you know that many Jewish girls called Sheine (Shayna) anglicised their names for general use by calling themselves Jane? I think turning Jayne into Shayna would be a bold move worth considering - the name is beautiful, means "beautiful," and seems suitable for general use these days. It would be a great way to honour a Jane/Jayne.

I think Jayne nicknamed Jenny is a great arrangement. I love Jane (and Jayne is a variant I like well enough) and I've always thought Jenny was a very sweet, earthy name, or nickname in your case. I like Jennifer quite a bit more than Jenna, which sounds kind of whiny to me, but overall would greatly prefer your name situation as is.
On the topic of Jennifer, I feel like I'm one of the last people who finds it to be a genuinely pretty name. Same with Heather, which I think is very appealing if you can look at it for what it is and not get mired in any particular decade.

I know a girl named Jenna and I think it's fairly nice, but I much prefer Jenny, which I find positively adorable. I'm not super crazy about Jennifer, though.
Jenna is very boring name :-(
Oh really? Well thanks for sharing that.
:)
:)
Boring to me, for several reasons.
While they would fit the time of your birth they'd still be dated and that would work against you in the future. Jennifer (though boring) is more adult than Jenna to me. If I were to recommend either to you I would probably go for Jennifer, even though they're sooo common. I don't even know now many Jennifers I've met, though.

I like them both a lot. I know some young Jennas and Jennifers. Some go by Jen, Jenny, or just Jenna or Jennifer. Neither sound to 80ish too me. I would say 80s or 70s after. Jayne is also nice.

I like Jenna much better than Jennifer. I agree that it wasn't as widely used, and sounds so much friendlier than Jennifer. However, I like Jayne a lot, if you're ready for a change, I'd recommend going back to Jayne. It's pretty even with the y tucked in.
I wouldn't want to change it, I just wish my first name were Jenna. Jenny is an easier nickname for Jenna or Jennifer, better than Jayne.
