Pronunciation of Albrecht

AL-BRET
I have a few friends with this last name and they just skip over the ch as if it were silent, approximately AHL-bret.
The database is correct. It's a fairly straightforward German pronunciation. I know in the United States a number of families with the surname Albrecht changed it to Albright generations ago to steer clear of anti-German sentiments, and that might also explain why they say Albrecht with that pronunciation. Or just that it's drifted far enough away from being a name of German speakers that its been gradually given a new regional pronunciation.
I've only heard it AHL-brekht myself.

AHL-brekht is the correct pron. in Dutch. The R is rolling. CH (and G for that matter) are a sound that doesn't exist in English, that may be why it's not pronounced AHL-brekht in English speaking regions :)
I use the German pronunciation and say 'AHL-breht'.
