Bruriah?
Thoughts on the name Bruriah (I'm using the pronunciation broo-RIE-ah)?Also, what do you think of the combos Bruriah Toba and Bruriah Yael?

I love Toba (do a search), it's my dd's third name :)
I can't say I like the English broo-rie-ah prononciation though... to me it is broo-ree-ah...
Bruriah Toba is definitely pretty.

I've been thinking about this name lately. I like the fact that it was that of a female scholar. I have only ever known one Bruria (broo-ree-uh), and she was very clever, so well-named. To the general public the name sounds like brewer or brewery. I would not use it myself in a hurry. But it's certainly different, and it's good to see that it's not entirely neglected.

BRuriah is kind of difficult to say. And the sound doesn't appeal to my ear. Toba reminds me a little too much of toga, but otherwise is nice, although I think the names having similar ending sounds is a bad thing. Yael fits much better with Bruriah and is a gorgeous name.

Bruriah is a mouthful. I really dislike the sound of it. The repeated R sound makes it sound angry.

I find Bruriah fantastically difficult to say and I agree with Iac that it sounds a bit harsh. I do not hate it though. Also, I'm not sure about Toba (love Tovah though) and agree again that Yael is certainly softer. However, the only thing more difficult than pronouncing Bruriah is pronouncing Bruriah Yael (to me the sounds run together).

I'm not really feeling Bruriah. The "Bru-" is a tad harsh, imo. Bruriah Toba sounds terrible because Toba sounds too much like Tuba, and Toba itself is rather harsh, too. I like Bruriah Yael much better. Yael is a soft, gentle name that balances out Bruriah quite nicely.
