I generally like names to be clearly gendered, anyway, since it's acceptable for girls to have masculine names nowadays, why not the other way round? I think the problem with Beverley and Shirley, however, is that they're pratically perceived as being only girls names. I think something like Ashley and Lindsay, which are still used for boys in the UK might work better. I also like Kim for a boy.
However, I must say I really dislike matching names for twins. Everybody now says it's important for twins, esp. identical, to be as individual as possible, not to be dressed alike, etc., so I think that includes having dissimilar names. But I like the idea of a theme that's not obvious, such as a similar meaning.
