I wouldn't be kept from using Clare simply because it could potentially be spelt wrong by others.
The problem isn't really the spelling thing alone. It's the combination of having an incredibly common name that nobody spells correctly on the first try. It's like the worst of both worlds for my sister sometimes: Not only is she one in a sea of girls with names that sound exactly the same, she ends up having to do the "Sara-without-an-H" thing all the time. She gets all the hassle of an unusual name with none of the benefits.
Does that make sense?
Thank you for your suggestions and opinion, though! I dig these:
Clare Aphra (I'm worried that the names run together a bit, though)
Clare IsauraClare DecimaClare Araminta (again, worried that they're running together)
Clare Cordelia (or
Clare Cornelia, ooooh)
Clare ParthenopeClare Arethusa (and again, the -are Are- thing)
Clare Sigrid
