WDYTO Cavanaugh?
I met someone (male) with this name this summer and really liked it, but recently I've been coming across it a lot as a surname. WDYT? Should I go against my no surname rule, or should I make an exception like I did with Bennet?
ETA: That he went by "Cav", which I thought was so cool!

It's way too surnamey for me, although I do also love the name Bennett and will let that one slide!
it shouldn't matter if it's a surname or not, if you like it then totally go for it! Fight the Power!
Do not fight me. I bite.
As a committed "surnames are for handing down heritage" advocate, I cannot give the thumbs up for Cavanaugh. How about Cavan? It's a county in Ireland and has a lovely ring to it. (Take the "aw" part off of Cavanaugh.) Just a thought.
Seriously, anyone who really wants to make me look silly can. Every once in a while I indulge in surnames like Keir and Cameron, so I do understand the attraction. I once thought Kinsella would make a nice girl's name.

Agree.
Cavan is really much nicer imo. I really dislike the "aw" sound in Cavanaugh and it's really too surnamey for me.
