Martha
I have noticed alot of people are starting to like the name Martha. That might make a comeback next year. I hope so. I am also seeing a lot of Irenes and Judiths on people's list.

I love the name Martha and have for years, so I'm hoping it doesn't make a comeback, because I don't want to see it get popular!
I really like Irene and Judith, but I just can't get into Martha. Maybe it's because of Martha Stewart or Martha White flour or the story of Mary and Martha, Lazarus' sisters, from the Bible (Mary sits at Jesus feet when he comes to visit while Martha bustles around the house trying to make it clean and be a good hostess, if I haven't got it backwards) but for me Martha is inextricably tied up with a sort of hopeless domesticity. Not that domesticity is bad, it's just not the image I prefer to get when hearing a name.
I think Martha will make a comeback, especially in Britain as it's now in the top 100 for England and Wales
A Question...
Why has Martha made a comeback in the UK? Is it the name of a popular actress or TV character? Just curious.

If you mean that a lot of people on this board are starting to like Martha, then yes I would agree it seems to be rising in popularity. Compared to the general public, however, the tastes of the people on this board are vastly different. Martha, Irene, and Judith are all still in the top 1000 in the U.S. though they have all been falling. Judith has fallen and risen a little over the last few years, and of the three would imo be the only one likely to see an increase(though doubtfully a signifigant increase) in 2008.
Just because people on here are starting to like Martha, doesn't mean it's going to go up much. We're a rather small group in comparison to the rest of the population.
