Nicknames for Alexandra?
For amusement, myself, my husband, and a few of his relatives were discussing nicknames for Alexandra. This was mostly started because there are now two Alexandra's in the family - We named our daughter because we thought it was a pretty historical name; a few months later his cousin who I've never met before and my husband hasn't seen since he was 10ish named his daughter Alexandra because it roughly sounds the same in English and in Finnish where he lives & his wife is Finnish. Once we got past the awkwardness when we met for the first time this past week, it was fine and somewhat amusing (mostly because the two may see each other once every 5-10 years if that, so no big conflict). It was also interesting we both call our daughers by their full names (though she calls her older daughter, Beatrice, Bea). So, for fun, here are some of the proposed nicknames. What do you think, and do you have any more suggestions?Alex (Husband's grandmother's original nn for her, though I don't like it - too masculine for me and my husband's stepbrother is Alec)
Alexa
Allie (Most of my husband's family member's favorite)
Lexi (This is the one my sister uses)
Xan
Xandra (This is how my three year old says her name, and the only nn we've used so far, if only sparingly)
Xana
Ada (An interesting new one I hadn't thought of, but it's growing on me).

My favorite nickname is definitely Allie. I think it's so cute :-)I agree with you that Alex seems more masculine (I definitely feel the same way), and for that reason, would not use Alex as a NN for a girl. Likewise, none of the other nicknames appeal to me.

My favorites are Alexa, Allie and Ada (I like this a lot, I hadn't thought of it). Xandra is cute as well. Anna could theoretically be a nickname too.

I'd go by Sasha. I'm not a big fan of Alexandra, but I know two adorable girls in Russia named this, and the nn Sasha reminds me of them.
Out of your list, my favourites are Xandra (Xannie), Alex and Allie.

I prefer Alexa. I've never much liked any of the others.

The only one I like from your list is Alex, but I'm not really a fan. Alexa is not nicknamey enough, Allie is my nn (and I've never liked it for Alexandra), Lexi takes a classic name and diminishes it down to stripper level, Xan and Xandra try too hard for me, and Ada is too much of a stretch...altough I think it could be cute if an Alexandra has a D- mn.The only nn for Alexandra that I'm at all enthusiastic about is Sandy. I think it's unexpected and has a lot of retro charm.

Alexandra is the only girl's name that I love as much as the name I did give my daughter, Victoria, but one reason I didn't want to use it was that I dislike almost all the nicknames for it. I particularly don't care for Alex, as like you, I find it too masculine. I don't like Lexi, Xan, Xandra, Xana, or Ada. My ex-boyfriend's older daughter is named Alexandra, and she goes by Xan. The only one I rather like is Allie, which I've never even thought of until recently.

I guess you could use Andie and Randie, too. Or maybe Andra, Annie, Xannie, or Nan?
