Helena
Well we thought we were set on Amelia for a girl's name but there is an Amelia in our neighborhood and I'm just not sure if its "THE" name. Our next choice is Helena. Problem lies in the pronunciation of it.What would be more appealing on a little girl. H-LAY-nuh or H-LEE-nuh. We would not use Helen-uh.Other possible name choices are...Gabriella
Iris
Heidi

Well I've never been a fan of Helena. I don't like the way it sounds, no matter what pronunciation gets used! I much prefer all your other names actually. Amelia, Gabriella, Iris and Heidi are all far nicer in my opinion. I think Heidi Amelia makes a beautiful combo.

I can't stand heh-LEE-nah, sorry (though I love both Elina and Alina). heh-LAY-nah is okay but not a favorite. I love HEL-eh-nah. I prefer Elena to all three, though (EL-eh-nah or eh-LAY-nah / eh-LEH-nah).Amelia, Gabriella and Iris are gorgeous.

I prefer it pronounced Ha-lee-nah

I'm pretty sure Hel-LEEN-uh is my favorite too. Would it be hard for my daughter to keep correcting people all the time? That's the only drawback for me.

Helena is beautiful, and I prefer the he-LAY-nah pronunciation.

Helena is my favorite girl's name. I bounce a little between pronounciations, the He-lay-na and the Hel-len-uh. For the first, I might use Laney as a nn, and for the second, I might use Lena. I don't like He-lee-nuh.

Helena's absolutely gorgeous. I prefer the H-LAY-nuh pronounciation of the 2 you suggest, though personally I favour Helen-uh

I only like the HEL-en-a pronunciation of Helena so both He-LEE-na and He-LAY-na are unappealing to me. My favorite from your list would be Iris, followed by Amelia.I second Elena's advice. If you can't decide, take all names to the hospital and see what feels right when you're face to face. The perfect choice may just leap out at you.

My husband wants us to lock in the name by the time we have our ultrasound in February so we can start telling people. I don't see the big deal but he is insistent on this. Seems like I can't find a girl's name that I like as much as Amelia right now. I need suggestions.

Tell your husaband that's just nuts.I don't know of anyone who is able to do that - most couples either keep the name to themselves or discuss multiple names until the baby arrives.

I really like Helena. I am used to the H-LEE-na prn so I would go for that.Of the others I prefer Amelia. I like Iris too. Heidi is too cute for me.

Definitely He-LAY-na. I have only known one Helena and that was her pronunciation. It just seems more "correct." Having said that, my favorite pronunciation is HELEN-na. ;-)Amelia is nice too. Gabriella is gorgeous. It's my favorite of your choices. Iris is nice, though not a fave. Heidi doesn't seem as mature as the other options. It seems perpetually youthful to me.My advice is to take all of your favorite names to the hospital and then see what she looks like.

Of the two, he-LEE-na. I used to prefer he-LAY-na but now much prefer the former pronunciation.Gabriella - Pretty but not something I would personally use.
Iris - Gorgeous, though I slightly prefer Isis.
Heidi - Cute. This is one of my friend's names.

I'm a big fan of Helena.Plus, I'm only familiar with the helen-uh pronunciation, since it's the norm. I really like Gabriela, but only spelled with one L, not two. Heidi I highly dislike, because I've only known ditzes with the name. Iris is pretty, if in.Of all your choices, I'd go with Amelia still. It's classic and appealing to me.

I prefer he-LEE-nuh, because it's the name of a river close to where I live (Helena River, in Perth, Australia) so it's the most familiar pronunciation. I love Helena pronounced that way.Iris and Heidi are both sweet, and Gabriella is nice although a little flowery for me.
