I like Alfred. It's one of those names that makes me smile. (Maybe in part because it reminds me of the players in 'R+G are Dead', but eh.) Less keen on Alfie, though. It's quite cute for a little boy but gets childish very quickly. Plus, its incredible trendiness makes it a bit less appealing, even as a nickname. I do like Alf, or maybe Fred, if Alfred was to have a nickname.

Wow, hello.Um. I'm posting as Octavia. Could you perhaps change your posting name to prevent confusion? Thanks :)

It appears that she joined with that name over a year ago. Unless you can change your user name without making a new account.

well.I've never seen her post before and I just got used to Octavia :(
She can change her posting name without making a new account, right? I did.

Yeah but maybe 'she' doesn't want to. I don't have a problem with us having the same posting name, I don't post very often, so if you're the one who has a problem with it you can change your own posting name.

Honestly, thoughEven if you registered with this name, your lack of posting made it fair enough for blaaargh to assume the name was available and take it. You can't just reclaim it now; that's really not fair to her. She's been posting regularly, and she started using this name before you made your grand re-entrance. You really ought to use a different name. It is confusing for you to both have the same name, so even if you don't mind, that's not how it works around here. And to everyone who has commented -- Mike C can change your log-in for you if you ask nicely, but you cannot just do it under user options. But there is no need to change the log-ins, only the posting name.

I'm torn on this, butI do think it would be nice for the infrequent posting Octavia to let the frequently posting Octavia have the name. "Legally", though, the infrequent one had it first.

You can change your posting name, but not your user/log-in name as far as I know.

I've always been sort of torn on that name. I sort of think it's handsome and dignified, but at the same time it seems copious and nerdy. I think Alfie is an adorable nickname, so that helps it out a lot. I suppose Freddie would be a cute nn too. Because of the nn possibilities, I'd say I like it as s fn, but it might do better as a mn. I have a friend named Benjamin Alfred, which I've always thought was a nice name.

I've always been in two minds about Alfred. I love Alfie as a nicknme, but I just can't imagine the name Alfred on anyone other than an octogenarian and I also don't like the flow of the lfr in the middle.
I think it would work better as a middle name.
